🦾🦿 The laboratory allows for full-scale modeling of the upper and lower extremities with the subsequent manufacture of stump-receiving sleeves (stump-receiving devices) for prostheses. The skills acquired by students are in great demand on the labor market, because these technologies and processes are currently the most common in prosthetic centers in Ukraine.
The basis of practical training for students studying in the following specialties:
• «Biomedical Engineering» (FBMI);
• «Applied Mechanics» (NN MMI) — certificate programs/specializations: «Engineering and Technologies of Prosthetics» at the bachelor’s degree, «Medical Engineering Technologies in Prosthetics» and «Additive Technologies in Prosthetics» at the master’s degree.
📌 The laboratory also allows for the development of skills in prosthetic rehabilitation, during which the patient must learn the basic techniques of using a prosthesis and which is an important first stage after the installation of prostheses.
A base of practical training for bachelors and masters studying at the FBMI in the specialty «Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy» and in educational programs within it: «Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy» at the bachelor’s degree and «Physical Therapy» at the master’s degree.
The laboratory, together with the Educational and Innovation Center for Prosthetics and Rehabilitation and the Science Park of Additive Technologies, is a component of the innovative ecosystem created at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, which combines education, science, technology, medical engineering and support for veterans.
💬 After the opening of the laboratory, a panel discussion was held on the prospects for training, internships and employment for veterans studying in the master’s degree program at Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
🏢 It is important that currently in one of the dormitories of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, it is planned to create an inclusive space for veterans.
The grant program for training veterans in the master’s program, as well as the creation of an inclusive educational infrastructure, is being implemented at the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute with the support of the Ukrainian IT product company appflame and with the assistance of the Genesis for Ukraine Foundation.
