Two years ago, the story of the Sikorsky Challenge Additive Technologies Science Park at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute began.
For me, these two years have been a time of substantial professional work: building a team, creating infrastructure, mastering technologies, and searching for solutions and partnerships.
We worked more than we talked about ourselves. Today we already have experience, groundwork, and results — and it’s time to talk more about our Park, its people, technologies, projects, and partnerships.
It’s fundamentally important to us that the Park is part of KPI’s scientific and innovation ecosystem. Our team consists of university lecturers, researchers, and students. That’s why every task has not only a practical dimension, but also a scientific and educational one.
We research, design, experiment, create prototypes, and test solutions, involving students in real-world cases. We believe that university knowledge should extend beyond the laboratory and work toward solving the country’s real problems.
One of the key areas of our work has become rehabilitation and prosthetics. The full-scale war has posed complex challenges for Ukraine that require its own technologies, engineering solutions, research, manufacturing capacity, and specialists.
3D scanning, digital modeling, additive manufacturing, the development of orthoses, custom components, and ergotherapy equipment — behind every technology stands a specific person and a specific task.
Partnership is an important part of this work. A professional ecosystem is forming around the Park, including rehabilitation centers, prosthetics companies, technology firms, charitable organizations, and engineering teams. We collaborate with Superhumans, Protez Foundation, Esper Bionics, «Bez Obmezhen», «Bionic Technologies,» and other partners.
A separate area of focus is competency development. The Park supports KPI’s educational initiatives, including for veterans, by providing expertise, infrastructure, equipment, and the opportunity to work on real practical tasks.
We’ve accomplished a lot over these two years. But there’s even more ahead.
Now we have plenty to talk about: our team, research, engineering developments, real-world cases, partners, technologies, education, and our vision for the future.
University science shouldn’t stay confined to the laboratory. It should work for the people and the state.
This is how we see the Science Park of Additive Technologies Sikorsky Challenge at KPI.
