At our AMSP Science Park, we worked on creating a customised prosthetic cover for veteran Serhii Khrapko. You can learn more about his story here:

Serhii is a veteran of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who lost an arm and a leg in 2015 as a result of injuries sustained on the Svitlodarsk salient. Following rehabilitation, he returned to an active lifestyle and sports. He participates in veterans’ competitions and represented Ukraine at the 2025 Invictus Games in Vancouver and Whistler.

Our team’s task was to create a personalised decorative and protective cover for his prosthesis, combining functionality with an individual design.

The work included:
→ analysing the shape and geometry of the prosthesis
→ 3D modelling of a customised structure
→ developing a perforated pattern
→ adapting the cover to the specific prosthesis
→ manufacturing it using additive technologies

A distinctive feature of the design is its botanical ornament. Numerous leaf-shaped openings create a recognisable pattern associated with the symbolism of the Invictus Games while also reducing the amount of material required.

For us, this project demonstrates how 3D modelling and additive manufacturing can create solutions tailored not only to technical requirements but also to the individual who uses them.

After all, a prosthesis is part of everyday life, and the ability to personalise its appearance can be just as important as its functionality.

The research prototypes are being developed for testing, research, and further adaptation in collaboration with engineers and with the advisory support of medical professionals.
